Dr. Robert W. Henderson ("Bob") is senior minister and head of staff at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a graduate of Furman University (BA, Economics and Religion, 1984), Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1989), and Columbia Theological Seminary (D. Min., 1996). Bob served as associate pastor at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Stone Mountain, GA, from 1988-1993 and senior pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC, from 1993-2008, a congregation that experienced exponential growth during his tenure.
He joined Covenant Presbyterian in 2008. At Covenant, Bob endeavors to create and lead dynamic worship that is faithful to Reformed Theology. In 2017, Charlotte Magazine selected Bob as "Charlottean of the Year" for his leadership constructing affordable housing in Charlotte. More recently, he has worked to address the needs of the chronically homeless and consulted with congregations throughout the southeast on matters of worship and mission.
Bob is married to Dr. Suzanne W. Henderson, Professor of Philosophy and Religion, Dean of Belk Chapel at Queens University of Charlotte (Ph.D. Duke University; M.Div. Princeton Theological Seminary). Suzanne has published widely in the field of New Testament studies. Her books include New Testament Conversations: A Pluralistic Introduction (Abingdon); and Christology and Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark (Cambridge University Press). Bob and Suzanne live in Charlotte, North Carolina. They have two daughters, Hannah and Abbie, and a son, Will.
