When Reggie Harris and Greg Greenway met in the green room of the fabled Village Gate in Greenwich Village, their conversation somehow found its way to race—as it was fated to. Born three days apart; one, a Black man from Philadelphia with roots in the South; one, a White man, born in the ex-capital of the Confederacy, Richmond, VA, they realized that their two distinct narratives were inextricably woven together. Miraculously, the mechanism that brought their ancestors through that same small portal of history, placed them in a small dressing room in Manhattan. In the fall of 2016, Reggie and Greg decided to make a pilgrimage together to the Whitney Plantation and Slavery Museum outside of New Orleans, and from that singular experience, Deeper Than The Skin was crystalized, based on the understanding that human beings are hard-wired for story and song. The audience will listen, learn and sing as Reggie Harris and Greg Greenway share songs and stories grounded in history, faith and friendship that have inspired millions to reach beyond boundaries to explore new relationships of purpose and possibility.
