The Buffalo Silver Band, the 105-year-old British-style brass band of Western New York, joins the JGB Shibuki Japanese Taiko ensemble for a program of East Meets West. A rising star of the Japanese Group Buffalo, the Shibuki Taiko Ensemble has been performing together on traditional Japanese percussion instruments since 2016. Both descended from long performance traditions, the two ensembles share a love of music-making and have found a way to synergize their different heritages, creating a vibrant musical experience together.
About Chautauqua Institution: Chautauqua Institution is a community on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York state that comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.
